Burleson’s Mexican food situation has quietly become the main reason I’ll sit in I-35W traffic, and I’m not sorry about it. There’s a specific kind of alchemy at play here: the same stretch of highway delivers a molcajete worth a forty-minute drive and a patio where the brisket-stuffed jalapeños outshine everything else on the menu.

I’ve eaten my way through the machetes, the tableside guac, the greasy birria, and the inconsistent chicken (we don’t talk about the chicken). What follows is proof that this town’s real currency isn’t the new housing developments—it’s the salsa.

Go eat.

Weekend pozole and menudo are a must; they're hearty and authentic. If you want genuine Mexican food without the gimmicks, this is your spot. Skip the chain nonsense. Come hungry, leave happy.

El Cielito Lindo Comida Mexicana is worth the 40-minute drive, no question. The molcajete arrives sizzling and packed with tender meat, veggies, and a sauce that hits hard. The sangria is delicious—fresh, not from a mix. Fajitas come out generous, sizzling, and flavorful. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, always there when you need a refill. The only quibble: things are slightly salty, so drink that sangria. The flavors are genuine, the portion sizes are honest, and the vibe is warm. This is real Mexican cooking, not watered-down Tex-Mex.

Menu promises more than plate

Old Brewing Company in Burleson surprised me. The brisket stuffed jalapeños are outstanding—smoky, spicy, and stuffed with cheese that pulls for days. Drinks are poured with confidence, strong and correct. Service redeemed a slow start; the staff picked it up and made sure we were taken care of. The patio is pleasant, and those string lights make it worth lingering. The menu promises more than the plate delivers in some cases, but the hits are hits. If you're nearby, stop in for the jalapeños alone. I'll be back.

The service is sharp, attentive without hovering. Thursday lunch gets busy, but the crowd adds energy. The brisket tacos impressed both me and my spouse, which is saying something. The only hit: chicken dishes are inconsistent. Sometimes great, sometimes meh. But stick to the steak and brisket and you leave happy. The vibe is lively and friendly. I'll be back for that queso.
