Irving isn't exactly the first place you'd expect to find yourself in a deep, meaningful relationship with a fried fish filet, but here we are, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Between the Texas bravado of The Ranch and the no-frills strip-mall bustle of Wings 88, this town has quietly turned frying into a legitimate art form, from catfish that shatters in all the right places to Cajun crab that demands you abandon your dignity and go barehanded.

I have strong opinions about breading, and I'm not afraid to deploy them: if you're serving me swai and calling it catfish, we're done talking. So grab a fork, loosen your belt, and get ready to meet the fish that will have you planning your next trip to Irving before you finish the meal.

Best catfish in Irving
Perfectly fried and seasoned
Real catfish, not swai
Friendly, welcoming service
Sides and pickles shine

D's Fish N More is the reason I keep a spare bib in my car. I walked in grumpy and hungry, and left practically singing. The catfish here is the real deal, actual catfish, not that swai nonsense that masquerades as fish everywhere else. It's perfectly fried, with a crust that shatters and a seasoning that knows what it's doing. The sides are no slouches either, and the pickles! I could write a sonnet about those pickles. The service is friendly and welcoming, which is a miracle in this day and age. This is the best catfish in Irving, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Bring your appetite.

Highlights
Texas-centric atmosphere and cuisine
Attentive, meticulous service team
Chef's standout queso starter
Savory fajitas worth returning for

The Ranch at Las Colinas has that Texas-centric vibe that makes you want to slap on a cowboy hat and order something beefy. But the queso starter from the chef is a standout, creamy and with just enough kick to wake up your taste buds. The service team is attentive and meticulous, almost to a fault, but I appreciate the effort. The fajitas are savory and worth returning for, though I was here for fish, and they did not disappoint on that front either. The atmosphere is all Texas bravado, which is fun, but the real star is the hospitality. It's a place that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. Just don't expect a quick meal; you'll want to linger.

Flavorful Cajun crab perfection

CAJUN CRAB PUB & GRILL is a sensory overload in the best way. The vibe is lively, almost rowdy, and the food is amazing, which is a dangerous combination for my waistline. The portions are so generous that I left with enough leftovers for two more meals, which is a win in my book. The service is attentive and top-tier, never hovering but always there when I needed a refill or a napkin. The Cajun crab is perfection, flavor-packed and messy in all the right ways. I went in expecting decent seafood, and I left utterly impressed. This place knows how to throw a flavor party, and everyone is invited. Bring a friend and an empty stomach.

Best fried fish in Irving

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken may have 'chicken' in the name, but let me tell you, their fried fish is the best in Irving. I walked in skeptical, but the made-to-order process won me over immediately. It's hot, fresh, and cooked with a crisp crunch that would make a southern grandma proud. The staff is friendly, and the place is clear and clean, which is more than I can say for some places. The specials are tempting, and the portions are generous enough to share, or not, no judgment. The seasoning is spot-on, not too salty, just right. My only regret is not discovering this place sooner. I will be back, and I will be ordering that fish.

Padaek is the kind of place that handles big groups with ease, which is a blessing because my crew is not quiet or small. The dishes are tasty and well-spiced, with a freshness that makes you forget you're in a strip mall. The portions are satisfying, and nothing left me feeling cheated. I came for the fish, and while the menu leans toward other things, what I had was solid, fresh, and prepared with care. The service was quick, even when the place was buzzing. It's not the flashiest spot in Irving, but it's got heart and flavor. I left full and happy, and that's all I can ask for. A real find.

First visit guarantees return trips

Wings 88 is a constant, and I mean that in the best possible way. Every time I go, the food is consistently fresh, never a disappointment, which is a rare quality in this town. The counter service is always friendly, and they know their regulars. The wings are a star, no doubt, but the fish is right up there, flaky and perfectly fried. And the egg rolls, they arrive in threes, which is an odd but delightful surprise. I went once, and I knew immediately I'd be back. It's that kind of place, unpretentious and reliable. If you want a no-fuss meal that hits the spot, this is your place. I'm already planning my next trip.

Best Italian food ever

Calm and welcoming atmosphere
Garlic bread was perfectly crisp
Non-negotiable Dallas dining spot

Di Rosani's is the best Italian food I've ever had, and I'm not saying that lightly. I walked in grumpy, and the calm, welcoming atmosphere melted my bad mood. The staff made recommendations that were spot-on, steering me toward dishes I would have otherwise missed. The garlic bread was perfectly crisp, with that ideal crunch that gives way to buttery softness. It's a non-negotiable Dallas dining spot, even if it's technically in Irving, I don't care. The service was attentive without being pushy, and the food was a warm hug on a plate. I left planning my next visit before I even paid the bill. Do yourself a favor and go.

Famous fried apple pies
Long-awaited Irving visit
Solid fries and rings
Skip for better branches

Griff's Hamburgers is a lesson in managing expectations. I finally made it to Irving for a long-awaited visit, and guess what? It's fine. The burgers are cheap eats, and the sides are decent, solid fries and rings, nothing to write home about. But the famous fried apple pies, those are the real deal, sweet and crispy. If you're in the area and want a quick, cheap meal, it's okay. But I have to be honest, you're better off skipping this branch for a better one. I left feeling a little let down, but not angry. It's just fine. And fine is the enemy of great. Next time, I'll know better.

Chatti chooru done right
A real Indian food find

Spices Of India Kitchen is the kind of place that makes you want to explore. I came for the fish, but the Kerala specialties are worth the trip alone. The beef roast and parotta are excellence, flaky and rich, and the chatti chooru is done right, a comforting bowl of goodness. This is a real Indian food find in Irving, not the same old butter chicken buffet. The flavors are bold and spiced with intention. The service is friendly, and the place has a no-nonsense vibe that I appreciate. I left with a full belly and a new appreciation for South Indian cuisine. If you're adventurous, this is your spot.

Catfish House is all about speed and friendliness. The service is fast, and I mean lightning fast, but not at the expense of being friendly. The food came out fresh and timely, hot and ready to devour. I was with a kid, and the shrimp meal got a big thumbs up, which is a high honor. And the giant chocolate chip cookies, those are a dangerous addition. I couldn't stop eating them. The fish itself was solid, fresh, and cooked well. Nothing fancy, but nothing broken. It's a reliable spot for a quick meal with the family. I left happy, full, and already planning my next cookie purchase.

Mariscos El Viejon Seafood and Bar is worth every penny, and I don't say that often. The seafood is fresh, with amazing flavors that make you close your eyes and nod. The aguachile was delicious, with a perfect sauce that I wanted to drink. The service is attentive, and the vibes are great, a lively place that welcomes you in. The staff is courteous, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I came for the fish, and I left with a new favorite spot. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and here, you get quality. Highlights
Attentive service from Daniel
Solid avocado dip and lobster roll
Nice birthday dessert and card
Long wait for food, sadly
Reservation still means a wait

Hudson House gets points for effort, but loses some for execution. I had a reservation, and I still waited, which is a pet peeve of mine. The service from Daniel was attentive and thoughtful, a bright spot in the chaos. The avocado dip and lobster roll were solid, good enough to make me forget the wait for a moment. They even brought a nice birthday dessert and a card, which was a sweet touch. But the long wait for the food is hard to ignore. I left with mixed feelings, appreciative of the gesture but frustrated by the timing. It's a place to try, but go with patience. And maybe a snack.
